Apple Season!

Fall has officially arrived here in IL! Harvest season started for us a couple weeks ago and we have officially finished combining beans. Now the boys are moving on to combing corn. While the men have all been busy in the field, a few of us girls got together and finished picking all the apples off our trees.

We have 3 apple trees in our back yard and this year they had the biggest and most beautiful apples ever! So of course we had to share. A few weeks ago, our friend Wendy came with her sister-in-law and children and picked a whole bunch of apples. This week, my mother-in-law and sister-in-laws and a few of the nieces and nephews came over to finish picking all the apples. I swear, these apples doubled in size over the last 2 weeks. Anthony was super excited to find a really big one and he couldn't wait to show it to his dad. We picked buckets and buckets of apples. I had purchased an apple picker off amazon last week, to get all those apples hiding at the top. What a super helpful tool! I think Emilie has mastered that skill, as she did a majority of the apple picking. The rest of us were busy picking the low hanging ones and all the ones off the ground. Now we will all make homemade apple sauce, apple butter and apple pie filling to enjoy all winter long.
