August Adventures (Even Though We Forgot to Post!)

August slipped through our fingers without a single post—funny how the busiest months seem to disappear the fastest. While the blog sat quiet, life certainly didn’t. Summer was bursting with fairs, tractors, sweet corn, and more ice cream than any one little boy could dream of.

Evan was in his element when fair season rolled around. With two county fairs nearby, there was no shortage of animals to see, rides to try, and entertainment to soak up. Watching his face light up at every pen of animals and carnival ride was enough to make us forget the heat and the dust.

Back at home, summer traditions were in full swing. We spent a day putting up sweet corn with family, while the kids turned the yard into their own adventure zone. They splashed in water tubs, squealed when an airplane buzzed overhead, and capped it all off with a gator ride around the pasture. Nothing fancy—just the kind of summer magic you only get outdoors.

Of course, no week was complete without a stop at Nana & Papa’s house. Between golf cart rides and bottomless snacks, Evan was in heaven.

August also meant the kickoff of customer appreciation supper season, a string of community gatherings that feel more like family reunions than events. At Uncle Loren’s, Evan discovered his favorite ice cream waiting for him. A few nights later, at Aunt Kellie & Grandma Annette’s, the cousins transformed a sand pile into a full-on tractor construction site. By the time our own supper rolled around, the bounce house and ice cream truck sealed the deal—it was kid paradise.

One highlight was spending a day with cousin Graham and Aunt Deb at a Touch a Tractor event. The boys scrambled up onto fire trucks, cop cars, tractors, and combines—basically, anything with wheels. Popcorn snacks in hand, they ran circles under the shade trees, sweaty but happy.

Not everything went smoothly—we had a run-in with hand, foot, and mouth. It meant a couple of feverish days and a smattering of spots, but Evan took it in stride. He kept Mom company in her office, “helping” with paperwork, and made the most of the cooler weather by playing in the yard and feeding corn to the cows. And the second he was back on his feet, he cannonballed into Nana & Papa’s pool to make up for lost time.

The month ended on the sweetest note: cousin Kennedy’s first birthday. The cousins claimed their very own picnic table, devoured cake, and ended the day visiting the goats and taking tractor rides. It was the perfect capstone to a month that proved: even when you don’t have time to write it down, the memories still find a way to stick.

Here’s to squeezing every last drop out of summer—and to trying not to let September fly by quite so fast.
